What is Repentance?
Repentance is the act of turning away from sin and sinful acts. It is not to be confused with being sorry for one's sins against God, but godly sorrow will be a factor in which repentance takes place.
The Bible teaches us in Romans 2:4 "Or despisest
thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering;
not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?"
Repentance is a gift of God. This knowledge can also be viewed as
something to build faith. One can KNOW that God loves them
and wants them by the fact that they feel to repent. This feeling
doesn't come from inside the heart of man, which is deceitful and
wicked (Jeremiah 17:9), but from the Spirit of God.
Repentance comes from the Greek word metanoeo which literally means to change one's mind and purpose.
The repentant person will not only feel sorry for their sins, but will turn away from those sinful acts and turn to God.
